SUMMARY:One Year of Genocide
DESCRIPTION:It has been one year of genocide in Gaza and 76 years of relentless oppression by Israel against the Palestinian people. \nThe complicity of many Western countries in Israeli atrocities has allowed this unbearable situation to deteriorate further. Israel has now intensified its brutal aggression against the Lebanese people\, who have long endured the brunt of Israel’s terror and colonial ambitions. \nOn Sunday\, 6th October\, we will gather in Parliament Square\, Valletta\, to express our outrage at this unspeakable injustice. We aim to continue participating in the global movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people and all those targeted by Israeli violence and oppression. \nOver the past year\, more than 42\,000 Palestinians have been massacred in Gaza\, mostly children and women\, while the rest of the population faces starvation and disease. In the occupied West Bank\, Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians have greatly intensified\, and Israeli occupation forces have escalated their deadly assaults on villages\, refugee camps\, journalists\, and activists. \nFrom the outset\, the state of Israel has had a clear project to expel Palestinians from their land in order to colonise it. For Palestinians\, this has meant 76 years of occupation\, apartheid\, and regular massacres. \nHowever\, it has also meant 76 years of Palestinian resistance and a global struggle for the liberation of Palestine. Protests were a frequent activity in the recent past\, but nowadays\, protesting has taken a different form. In this workshop collaboration between Magna Żmien and Moviment Graffitti\, we are presenting a day-long workshop which explores Malta’s protesting past whilst actively applying the contents of our archives to create material to make your voice heard. \nSince 1994\, Moviment Graffitti has been one of the leading non-governmental organisations fighting against injustices particularly related to the environment\, having organised 100s of protests and peaceful actions and since then\, they have amassed an archive documenting their activities as an organisation. Magna Żmien\, whilst also being an NGO\, focuses on preserving Maltese memory by digitalising analogue material related to Maltese life in the 20th century. \nThis workshop will include interventions from activists\, archivists and activists-archivists. \nWith interventions from activists\, archivists and activists-archivists\, this workshop is intended for: \n1. Anyone who wants to express themselves effectively when protesting;\n2. Whoever is curious about the creative aspects of archiving\n3. People who are curious to learn about the history of protesting in Malta;\n4. Anyone who wants to look into the contents of the two archives. \nPlease note that this workshop has a limited capacity.
