SUMMARY:Film Screening - Suffragette
DESCRIPTION: Bħala parti mill-avvenimenti li qegħdin norganizzaw għall-okkażjoni tal-Jum Internazzjonali tal-Mara 2023\, Il-Moviment Graffitti se juri l-film Suffragette nhar il-Ġimgħa 3 ta’ Marzu fis- 6.30 p.m. ġewwa 67\, Strait Street\, il-Belt Valletta. \n Ambjentat fil-bidu tas-seklu 20 fl-Ingilterra\, Suffragette\, li ħareġ fl-2015 huwa film spirat minn ġrajjiet li seħħew fl-istorja. Grupp ta’ nisa\, imħeġġin mill-attiviżmu ta’ Emmeline Pankhurst organizzaw ruħhom politikament biex jiġġieldu għall-ġustizzja soċjali\, għall-ugwaljanza u speċjalment għad-dritt tal-vot. L-istorja tas-Suffragettes Ingliżi hija ġlieda kontra l-inġustizzja daqs kemm hija ġlieda kontra l-forzi tal-ġustizzja stess. In-nisa rreżistew daqs kemm il-ġlieda tagħhom sabet reżistenza mill-istrutturi patrijarkali ta’ dak iż-żmien. \n Qabel il-film\, l-akkademika\, il-Professur Carmen Sammut se tagħmel preżentazzjoni qasira mil-lenti femminista dwar il-ġrajjiet storiċi u soċjali li wasslu biex in-nisa kisbu l-vot f’Malta fl-1947. \n Id-dħul huwa b’xejn. Ejjew nixorbu tazza nbid flimkien u naraw dan il-ġawhra ta’ film li ma jistax ħlief jispirana. \n****** \n As part of the run-up to International Women’s Day 2023\, Moviment Graffitti will be screening the film Suffragette on Friday 3rd March at 6.30 p.m. at its premises at 67\, Strait Street\, Valletta. \n Set in early 20th century England\, Suffragette is a 2015 film inspired by true events where a group of women\, instigated by the activism of Emmeline Pankhurst\, organised themselves politically to fight for social justice\, equality and especially the right to vote. The story of the British Suffragettes was a fight against injustice as much as it was against the forces of justice themselves. They resisted as much as their fight was resisted by the patriarchal structures of the time. \n Before the film\, Professor Carmen Sammut\, academic\, will give a brief historical and sociological background about women’s struggle for universal suffrage in Malta in 1947 from a feminist perspective. \n Entrance is free of charge. Come and share a glass of wine with us and watch this amazing and inspiring film.

SUMMARY:Women's March Malta 2023
DESCRIPTION: Wednesday\, 8th March is International Women’s Day 2023. Women’s day has a long history of women protesting against injustices and fighting for change as well as remembering their struggles and achievements. This year we will once again be marching in protest against the injustices of our incompetent and insensitive systems and the inequality which women continue to experience in our patriarchal society. \n This year the theme we have chosen is Women United against Injustice (Nisa Magħqudin għax mill-Ġustizzja Mċaħħdin). This theme has been chosen because of the many injustices that women in our society face every day especially when they seek justice through our institutions. Over the past months alone\, we have seen senseless sentences and court decisions\, long years of waiting for action to be taken or for justice to be served\, police inaction which could have prevented serious crimes such as domestic violence and femicide\, lack of information\, lack of coordination\, as well as instances of baseless victim blaming. Women experience injustice not only because of inequality and discrimination but also because our justice system is a farce. \n Join us on Wednesday\, 8th March at 5.30 pm near the Triton Fountain in Floriana where we will start our protest march to voice our anger at these institutions which are supposed to protect us and to demand that our voices be heard and justice served. The march will end in front of the law courts where we will shout our demands. \n Come and bring other women. Come with placards voicing your anger and demanding justice. \n#womenunitedagainstinjustice\n#nisamagħqudinmillġustizzjamċaħħdin \n—– \nL-Erbgħa\, 8 ta’ Marzu huwa l-Jum Internazzjonali tal-Mara 2023. Jum il-Mara għandu storja twila ta’ nisa jipprotestaw kontra l-inġustizzji u jiġġieldu għall-bidla kif ukoll ifakkru l-ġlidiet u r-rebħiet tagħhom fil-passat. Din is-sena se nkunu għal darb’oħra qegħdin nimmarċjaw bi protesta kontra l-inġustizzji li jitwettqu mis-sistemi inkompetenti u insensittivi tagħna u kontra l-inugwaljanzi li n-nisa għadhom jaffaċċjaw ta’ kuljum fis-soċjetà patrijarkali li ngħixu fiha. \n Din is-sena t-tema li għażilna hija Nisa Magħqudin għax mill-Ġustizzja Mċaħħdin. Din it-tema ġiet magħżula minħabba l-ħafna inġustizzji li n-nisa fis-soċjetà iħabbtu wiċċhom magħhom ta’ kuljum speċjalment meta jfittxu l-ġustizzja fl-istituzzjonijiet tagħna. Matul ix-xhur li għaddew rajna sentenzi u deċiżjonijiet bla sens mill-qrati tagħna\, snin twal ta’ stennija biex tittieħed azzjoni biex issir ġustizzja\, nuqqas ta’ azzjoni mill-pulizija li setgħet evitat reati serji bħall-vjolenza domestika u anki femiċidji\, nuqqas ta’ informazzjoni u ta’ koordinazzjoni\, kif ukoll sitwazzjonijiet fejn il-vittma minflok ġiet protetta\, taw it-tort lilha. In-nisa jesperjenzaw l-inġustizzja mhux biss minħabba l-inugwaljanza u d-diskriminazzjoni imma wkoll għax is-sistema ġudizzjarja hija farsa. \n Ingħaqdu magħna nhar l-Erbgħa 8 ta’ Marzu fil-5.30 ta’ filgħaxija fejn il-Funtana tat-Tritoni\, il-Furjana minn fejn se jitlaq il-marċ biex insemmgħu leħinna u nesprimu r-rabja tagħna lejn dawn l-istituzzjonijiet li suppost qegħdin hemm biex jipproteġuna u biex nisħqu li l-vuċi tagħna tkun mismugħa. Il-marċ jintemm quddiem il-qrati fejn se nagħmlu dawn it-talbiet tagħna b’vuċi soda. \n Ejjew u ġibu nisa oħra magħkom. Ejjew u ġibu l-placards bil-messaġġi tagħkom ta’ rabja biex nesiġu li ssir ġustizzja. \n#womenuniteagainstinjustice\n#nisamagħqudinmillġustizzjamċaħħdin

SUMMARY:Konferenza Stampa - Daqshekk Bini fuq Kemmuna!
DESCRIPTION: Despite unprecedented public opposition\, Hili Group shows no signs of withdrawing its plans to create a complex of villas overlooking Santa Marija Bay in Comino. Contrary to Hili’s insistence\, the project will increase the number of buildings and destroy pristine garigue\, as shown in the developers’ own renders. \n Several organisations will be gathering in front of Hili Group’s headquarters in Marsa to remind the company that this is a hugely unpopular project\, with a record 13\,500+ objections submitted to the Planning Authority. We also invite you to attend and express your anger at the project. \nWe will not accept any further take-up of land by private interests on Comino  \n Moviment Graffitti | BirdLife Malta | Din l-Art Helwa | Flimkien Għal Ambjent Aħjar | Friends of the Earth Malta | Nature Trust – FEE Malta | Ramblers Malta

SUMMARY:Press Conference - Give us a Safe Efficient Transport System!
DESCRIPTION: After a year of record road fatalities in 2022 and perpetual road congestion\, we will be addressing the press in front of Parliament in Valletta to push the Maltese authorities for safe and efficient roads and transport systems that stop treating pedestrians\, cyclists\, and users of public transport as a mere afterthought to cars. Over the years\, the combination of poorly designed infrastructure for active commuting\, the perpetuated problem of an overdependence of cars\, and inefficient public transportation have made our streets a death trap\, with road fatalities currently being 10 times higher than the rest of the EU. \nJoin us on Saturday 18th March at 9am\, where we will be making the following demands to the authorities  \n Nationalise and invest further into all public transport \n Publish standards for pedestrian and cycling infrastructure\, and a legally-binding national cycling policy \n Update our Highway Code to introduce the hierarchy of road users\, giving those in charge of vehicles that can cause the greatest harm the greatest responsibility to reduce the danger to the more vulnerable road users \n Introduce Presumed Liability laws to protect the more vulnerable road users \n Enhance the quality of our village cores by prioritising active mobility allowing people to safely walk or cycle within their villages. \n\nMoviment Graffitti | Rota | Friends of the Earth Malta

SUMMARY:Thrift for Solidarity - Fundraiser for Turkish/Syrian LGBTIQ+
DESCRIPTION:MGRM\, YMCA Malta\, Moviment Graffitti and friends will be thrifting to fundraise for our LGBTQI+ siblings in Turkey and Syria. \nOur community members will host stalls with clothes\, books\, art and more for you to thrift away at. Food will also be available. Everyone is welcome.\nLater on\, we will push the tables and dance our pent up frustrations away! \nThe earthquakes that shook Turkey and Syria have left the diaspora across the world in shock. What might just be another news item for some of us in Malta is an indescribable trauma\, the magnitude of which we can’t possibly understand. While there has been amazing international support we know that international aid does not reach everyone equally\, because society doesn’t deem everyone equal. The politicians that oppress the LGBTQI+ community in Turkey and Syria are the same that have responded inadequately to the worst natural disaster to ever hit the region. Taxes raised for earthquake disaster relief are being misspent and the lack of disaster relief preparedness has cost too many lives. \nThis is why we are carefully researching the organisations to send money to. In the following days we will be introducing these organisations to you (if we can) and we guarantee that every cent raised will benefit the LGBTQI+ community in the region. \nMassive thanks to Maori bar for offering to host us.

SUMMARY:Malta Mhux Għall-Bejgħ!
DESCRIPTION: Ingħaqdu magħna hekk kif se nkunu qegħdin insejħu lill-gvern biex jieħu azzjoni b’saħħitha\, fil-kuntest tas-sentenza monumentali li ngħatat mill-qorti kontra l-privatizzazzjoni tat-tliet sptarijiet tal-gvern. \n Is-sentenza\, li annulat il-ftehimiet tal-mistħija\, li wasslu biex tliet sptarijiet tal-istat jaqgħu f’idejn il-privat\, ikkonfermat dak li ħafna kienu ilhom jafu – li aħna\, il-pubbliku\, qarrqu bina\, iffrodawna u litteralment serquna f’konfoffa kriminali internazzjonali bl-għajnuna ta’ membri tal-gvern tagħna stess. \n Din mhix l-unika darba li ġraw dawn l-affarijiet. Art pubblika f’Pembroke u f’Bormla wkoll ingħatat lill-ftit biex iħaxxnu bwiethom\, bħal ma ngħatat bl-istess mod l-enerġija tal-pajjiż. \n F’kull wieħed minn dawn il-ftehimiet\, jibqgħu ifeġġu l-istess ismijiet. \nKonrad Mizzi. Keith Schembri. Joseph Muscat. \n Ingħaqdu magħna nhar it-Tlieta 21 ta’ Marzu\, fis-6.30 ta’ filgħaxija\, quddiem Kastilja\, fejn il-Moviment Graffitti u organizzazzjonijiet u individwi soċjalisti\, xellugin u progressivi oħrajn se jkunu qegħdin jippreżentaw ittra miftuħa lill-Kabinett. \n Qegħdin nesiġu li ssir investigazzjoni fuq il-ftehimiet kollha li dawn in-nies kienu involuti fihom\, li jitreġġgħu lura l-flejjes li ngħataw lil VGH/Steward b’riparazzjoni għall-frodi li għamlu\, u t-twaqqif immedjat ta’ kull ftehim għall-privatizzazzjoni li huwa għaddej bħalissa. \nDaqshekk ftehimiet li jibbenefikaw lill-ftit għad-dannu tal-ħafna \nDaqshekk assi pubbliċi mgħoddija f’idejn il-privat \nMalta mhix għall-bejgħ \n****** \n Join us as we call on government to take strong action following the landmark court sentence against the privatisation of three state hospitals. \n The judgement nullifying the shameful deals that saw three state hospitals enter private hands confirmed what many have known all along – that we\, the public\, have been scammed\, defrauded\, and outright robbed by an international criminal conspiracy with the help of members of our own government. \n This is not the only instance where this has happened. Public land in Pembroke and Bormla has also been given away to line the pockets of the few\, as has our energy. \n In each of these deals\, the same names keep popping up. \nKonrad Mizzi. Keith Schembri. Joseph Muscat. \n Join us on Tuesday 21st March at 18:30\, in front of Castille\, where Moviment Graffitti and other socialist\, leftist or progressive organisations and individuals will be presenting an open letter to Cabinet. \n We are demanding an investigation into all the deals these people were involved in\, restitution of the money given to VGH/Steward and reparations for their fraud\, and an immediate stop of all privatisation deals currently being conducted. \nNo more deals that benefit the few at the expense of the many \nNo more public assets handed over to private interests \nMalta is not for sale

SUMMARY:Exhibition 'Like Flour' - Testimonies from Detention during the Pandemic
DESCRIPTION: ‘Like Flour’ is a project spearheaded by photojournalist Joanna Demarco. The project navigates the experiences of people who were detained in Malta’s migrant detention centres during the pandemic\, questioning and shining a light on the ways in which the inhumane treatment of one of Malta’s most vulnerable communities became worse throughout that period. \n Through testimonies\, objects\, photographs and mobile images taken by the detained asylum-seekers themselves\, the work provides a rare peephole into a world that is shrouded in secrecy. Journalists and NGOs continue to have little to no access to the detention centres to bear witness to the neglect\, making these stories a rare opportunity for the outside world to hear what the asylum-seekers went through first hand. \n The project\, which is being exhibited at Moviment Graffitti’s headquarters between Thursday 30th March and Friday 7th April\, was carried out in collaboration with aditus foundation and journalist Julian Delia. The project was supported by the National Geographic COVID-19 Emergency Fund. \n The objective of the display is to act as a platform for discussion on the topic of detention. This will be facilitated through panel discussions between stakeholders in the field of migration and detention in Malta. \n Thursday 30th March: ‘What’s going on in there?’ – Policy\, conditions and (lack of) access \n Wednesday 5th April: ‘Why am I treated like a criminal?’ – Trauma and the wellbeing of asylum-seekers in relation to detention and the asylum system in general. \nMore information on the panelists will be announced in the coming days. \n \n\nThursday 30th March 6.30pm – 9.30pm (panel discussion 8pm)\nFriday 31st March 6pm – 9pm\nSaturday 1st April 10am – 8pm\nSunday 2nd April 10am – 8pm\nMonday 3rd April 6pm – 9pm\nTuesday 4th April 6pm – 9pm\nWednesday 5th April 6pm – 9.30pm (panel discussion 8pm)\nThursday 6th April -closed-\nFriday 7th April 6pm – 9pm
