DESCRIPTION: Residenti ta’ Birżebbuġa flimkien ma’ diversi għaqdiet qegħdin isejħu Konferenza Stampa għal nhar is-Sibt 5 ta’ Marzu fl-10:30\, ġewwa l-pjazza tal-knisja ta’ Birżebbuġa\, sabiex jispjegaw l-oppożizzjoni tagħhom għal proġett enormi fiż-żona ta’ Wied Żnuber. \n Wied Żnuber jinsab mhedded minn proġett ta’ airstrip għall-mudelli tal-ajruplani li se jinvolvi radam estensiv tax-xagħri\, strippa twila ta’ tarmak\, bini ta’ clubhouse u tniġġis qawwi bid-dawl u l-istorbju li se jeqirdu s-serenità tal-wied u tal-irdum. Dan f’sit li parti minnu\, u biswit tiegħu\, huwa Natura 2000; jiġifieri sit li l-awtoritajiet stess jagħrfu li huwa ekoloġikament sensittiv. Fih jinsabu annimali protetti\, veġetazzjoni importanti u anka siti storiċi. \n Il-proġett se jsarraf ukoll fit-tkeċċija ta’ numru ta’ bdiewa mill-art li jaħdmu. \n Il-pjan għal din il-mitjar tħabbar ftit tal-ġimghat ilu wara l-iffirmar ta’ ftehim bejn l-aġenzija tal-Gvern INDIS u assoċċjazzjoni tat-titjir tal-mudelli tal-ajruplani. Ħadd ma kien ġie ikkonsultat dwar dan il-proġett li mistenni jkollu impatti ambjentali u soċjali kbar. \n Ir-residenti u l-għaqdiet se jispjegaw li\, filwaqt li huma jirrispettaw lil min għandu d-delizzju tat-titjir tal-mudelli tal-ajruplani\, pjan ta’ dan it-tip m’għandux isir askapitu tal-ambjent naturali u tal-ispazji miftuħa tagħna. \n Kulħadd huwa mistieden jattendi l-Konferenza Stampa. \n****** \nPRESS CONFERENCE – SAVE WIED ŻNUBER \n Residents of Birżebbuġa\, together with various organisations\, are calling a press conference on Saturday 5th March at 10:30am at the Birzebbuġa parish square to explain their opposition to the massive project in the area of Wied Żnuber \n Wied Żnuber is threatened by plans to develop an airstrip for model aeroplanes that will involve the burying of large areas of garigue\, a long strip of tarmac\, the construction of a clubhouse\, as well as both noise and light pollution that will destroy the serenity of the valley and cliffs. This site and its surroundings are part of the Natura 2000 network – meaning that the authorities themselves recognise it as being ecology sensitive. It is home to various protected species of flora and fauna\, as well as historical sites. \n The project will also result in several farmers being evicted from their fields. \n The plans for this mini-airport were announced several weeks ago after an agreement was signed between the INDIS government agency and model aeroplane enthusiast associations. No other stakeholders or organisations were consulted on a project that is expected to have a significant environmental and social impact. \n Residents and organisations will explain that while they respect model aeroplane hobbyists\, such plans should not go ahead at the expense of our environment and open spaces. \n The press conference is open to all who wish to attend.

Niltaqgħu fejn il-Funtana tat-Tritoni fil-11.00 a.m. Wara l-Marċ se jkun hemm ftit diskorsi u kanzunetti. \nL-attività semmejniha “Jum il-Mara Kuljum: Mill-kliem għall-fatti” biex nisħqu fuq il-ħtieġa li naħdmu u niġġieldu għall-bidla ta’ veru. Qegħdin insejħu għal strateġiji effettivi biex jiġu implimentati fuq medda ta’ żmien\, biex is-sistema tinbidel f’waħda li verament ittejjeb il-ħajja tan-nisa fis-soċjetà. \n Qegħdin nistiednu lin-nisa u lil dawk kollha li jridu jsemmgħu leħinhom kontra l-inugwaljanza bejn in-nisa u l-irġiel u kontra s-sessiżmu biex jingħaqdu magħna. Il-preżenza tiegħek hija importanti! \n \n Moviment Graffitti\, Young Progressive Beings\, Women’s Rights Foundation and Doctors for Choice are inviting everyone to a march in Valletta on Sunday 6th March\, on the occasion of the the International Women’s Day. We are gathering near the Tritons Fountain at 11.00 a.m. The march will be followed by a few speeches and songs. \n We called the event “Women’s Day every day: Less words more action” to emphasize the necessity of advocating and fighting for actual change to happen. We are demanding strategies to be implemented to sustain long term\, systemic changes that will truly improve the lives of women in society. \n We invite all women and all those who want to raise their voice against gender inequality and sexism to join us. You can bring your own placards and signs. We are all different\, yet everyone faces similar struggles caused by a patriarchal society and we can join forces to change this reality. The movie narrates different phases and ages of Gloria Steinem’s life. Gloria Marie Steinem is a feminist journalist and political activist\, especially prominent in the feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. \n Doors open at 5:30pm. The movie starts at 6pm. Drinks\, nibbles\, and music afterwards.

Iżda xorta waħda nħossu l-ħtieġa li fil-ġranet li ġejjin tintwera l-imħabba tan-nies għal dan il-post u l-oppożizzjoni tagħhom għall-pjan tal-mitjar. \n Għalhekk\, minflok il-mixja\, ser niltaqgħu nhar it-Tlieta 22 ta’ Marzu fis-6pm fil-pjazza tal-knisja ta’ Birżebbuġa għal attività simbolika favur il-ħarsien ta’ Wied Żnuber. \nĠentilment nitolbukom ixxerrdu l-kelma. \n Kulħadd huwa mistieden iġib miegħu messaġġi f’forma ta’ stampi jew kitba favur il-ħarsien tal-wied\, l-irdum u l-madwar tagħhom minn kull żvilupp qerriedi. \nMatul din l-attività ser intennu t-talbiet tagħna li: \n Il-pjanijiet għall-mitjar fiż-żona ta’ Wied Żnuber jiġu rtirati minnufih. \n Is-sit inkwistjoni\, li kien ġie inkluż bħala parti miż-żona industrijali\, jiġi desinjat bħala ODZ ħalli jkun jista’ jkompli jitgawda mill-pubbliku\, jintuża mill-bdiewa u jservi ta’ buffer zone għas-sit tan-Natura 2000. \nNarawkom nhar it-Tlieta 22 ta’ Marzu fis-6pm fil-pjazza tal-knisja ta’ Birżebbuġa. \n****** \n Due to forecast of heavy winds\, we regretfully cancel the walk of Saturday 19 March around the site where there are current plans for a miniature airstrip in Wied Żnuber. We nevertheless feel that people should still be given the chance to come and show their love for this place and stand against the airstrip. \n So please come and meet us on Tuesday the 22nd of March at 6pm at the parish square of Birżeb-buġa for a symbolic event to save Wied Żnuber. \nPlease spread the word. \n Everyone is invited to bring with them posters and placards with written messages supporting the protection of Wied Żnuber\, the cliffs and surroundings from destructive development. \nDuring this activity we will reiterate our call for: \n The plan for an airstrip in the area of Wied Żnuber to be immediately withdrawn. \n The site\, which has been included as part of the industrial zone\, be designated as ODZ so that it can be enjoyed by the public\, used by the farmers and serve as a buffer zone to the Natura 2000 site.
