SUMMARY:X'qed jigri f'Villa Rosa? Laqgħa ta' informazzjoni għar-residenti
DESCRIPTION:It-tibdil propost fil-Pjan Lokali għas-sit ta’ Villa Rosa se jkollu impat enormi fuq il-lokalitajiet ta’ Pembroke\, is-Swieqi\, u San Ġiljan. \nSkont il-pjan rivedut propost\, jistgħu jitilgħu binjiet li jaslu sa 39 sular\, flimkien ma’ żewġ torrijiet addizzjonali ta’ 22 sular li se jidfnu għalkollox il-Bajja ta’ San Ġorġ u jordmu lir-residenti tal-madwar. L-impronta tal-iżvilupp se tikber għal madwar 146\,500 metru kwadru – intensifikazzjoni estrema li se tħalli impatt serju fuq il-komunitajiet fil-qrib u l-infrastruttura pubblika. \nQed inħeġġu lir-residenti ta’ dawn il-lokalitajiet biex jattendu laqgħa pubblika fejn ser nispjegaw x’qed jiġri fil-kwistjoni ta’ Villa Rosa\, x’ħa jkunu l-impatti tat-tibdil fil-Pjan Lokali\, u x’nistgħu nagħmlu dwarhom. \nPost: BMX Warehouse\, PembrokeData: Il-Ġimgħa 19 ta’ Settembru\, 6.00PM \nNarawkom hemm! \n****** \nWhat’s happening at Villa Rosa? Information meeting for residents \nThe proposed changes to the Local Plan for the Villa Rosa site will have a huge impact on the localities of Pembroke\, Swieqi\, and St Julian’s. \nAccording to the revised plan\, buildings of up to 39 storeys could rise\, alongside two additional towers of 22 storeys\, which would completely bury St George’s Bay and suffocate nearby residents. The development footprint would expand to around 146\,500 square metres — an extreme intensification with a devastating impact on nearby communities and public infrastructure. \nWe are urging the residents of these localities to attend a public meeting where we will explain what is happening regarding Villa Rosa\, what the impacts of the changes to the Local Plan will be\, and what we can do about them. \nLocation: BMX Warehouse\, PembrokeDate: Friday\, 19th September\, 6:00 PM \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Placards Against Pinkwashing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion on pinkwashing and a workshop on making placards! \nOn Tuesday 9th September\, Moviment Graffitti is organising a queer placard making event. This activity is part of the events during Pride week and the placards can be used during the Pride March on Saturday. The activity will be held at our premises\, 67 Strait Street\, Valletta and will start at 6.30 p.m. \nThe theme of the event is pinkwashing which refers to the practice of using LGBTQ+ rights and symbols to hide or justify systems of oppression or injustice. \nThe activity will start with three short informal presentations about the three themes: The genocide in Palestine\, LGBTIQ+ Migrants\, and Business Corporations. There will be some time for questions\, clarifications and discussion. The second part will be dedicated to making the placards on the three themes. We will provide the materials for the placards. \nThe aim of this event is to challenge the use of LGBTQ+ struggles as a branding tool for states and businesses that continue to perpetuate exploitation and oppression. Through the messages on the placards we make\, we want to denounce pinkwashing\, and to express genuine solidarity with Palestinians\, migrants\, and all oppressed communities beyond rainbow capitalism. \nPlease join us for this fun and informative event and bring your friends along! \nBackground: Israel has long promoted itself as a queer-friendly state to obscure its ongoing genocide and occupation of Palestinians as well as the harassment and bullying of Palestinian members of the LGBTIQ+ community. Similarly\, multinational corporations use Pride symbolism to present themselves as queer friendly while continuing to profit from unethical practices\, the exploitation of workers and policies which do not benefit members of the LGBTIQ+ community. In Malta\, pinkwashing also intersects with the realities of migration: queer and trans migrants are often celebrated as symbols of diversity\, yet in practice\, many face detention\, racism\, and repatriation policies.

SUMMARY:Act NOW Against Genocide in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 29th July at 6:30pm\, we will gather at the Triton Fountain in Valletta and march to Castille Square to demand meaningful action by the Maltese Government against Israel’s mass starvation of Palestinians in Gaza. \nChildren\, women\, and men in Gaza are currently being starved to death. After 1 year and 10 months of genocidal mass murder of civilians – including the deliberate targeting of journalists\, healthcare professionals\, aid workers\, and aid seekers – Israel is now intensifying its genocide through mass starvation. \nImages of children dying from hunger\, and of the elderly collapsing to their deaths while waiting in vain for food\, should trigger the strongest reaction from any human being with even a shred of empathy! \nIt is therefore deeply hurtful and outrageous that Western governments continue either to proactively support the genocidal state of Israel or to take no meaningful action to stop the Israeli-imposed mass starvation of the Palestinian population in Gaza. \nRegrettably\, the Maltese Government is also failing abysmally to take the actions within its power to oppose this genocide. \nIn contrast with other European countries such as Ireland and Spain\, it has consistently failed to condemn Israel’s genocide on the international stage\, has reneged twice on its promise to recognise the State of Palestine\, and continues to allow ships flying the Maltese flag to transport weapons and military material to Israel. \nIn view of this inaction and complicity\, on Tuesday we will be calling for: \n\nA strong and unambiguous stand by the Maltese Government condemning Israel and calling for its sanctioning\, including the cancellation of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.\nThe prohibition of ships flying the Maltese flag from transporting weapons and military material to Israel\, along with a clear and enforced policy preventing ships carrying such material from entering Maltese waters or being serviced by vessels from Malta.\nThe immediate recognition by the Government of Malta of the State of Palestine.\n\nFREE PALESTINE  \nOrganisations:\nEmbassy of Palestine in MaltaĠustizzja għall-PalestinaMoviment GraffittiThe Lebanese AdvocatesThe Watermelon WarriorsYouth for Palestine

SUMMARY:Unsilenced: Poetry Night
DESCRIPTION:“Unsilenced: Poems for Palestine” is a collection of poems that convey profound emotions and serious reflections on the ongoing situation in Gaza and Palestine since the Nakba. The anthology seeks to express the moral outrage felt by poets from around the world\, highlighting the perceived double standards of the West regarding international law and the suffering of the Palestinian people. Contributors include diverse voices from various countries\, each recognizing the urgency and necessity of addressing the inhumane actions perpetrated against Palestine. \nThis evening will present a reading of the poems together with reflections by Dr David Aloisio\, lecturer\, University of Malta and award-winning author; his Excellency Fadi Hanania\, Palestinian Ambassador in Malta; Sarah Warderberg\, an activist and lawyer based in Malta with a law degree from Orebro University and a Master’s in intellectual history from the University of Gothenburg\, Sweden. \nIncome from the sale of this title will be donated for Palestine.

SUMMARY:Community Discussion on the Anti-Gender Movement: Origins\, Tactics\, and Impact
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a community discussion on the anti-gender movement\, led by Maïté de Haan\, Belgian policy officer for the LGBTQI+ rights advocacy organization Çavaria. \nThe rise of the anti-gender movement has significant implications for LGBTQI+ rights\, women’s rights\, and sexual and reproductive rights. What exactly is this movement? Why does it exist? Who are the key actors\, and how do they work to influence society? \nIn this event we’ll examine their strategies\, motivations\, and the broader impacts of their activities. Together\, we’ll explore how we can work collectively to protect and advance gender equality and human rights in the face of these challenges. Maïté’s presentation will be followed by a discussion and a moment to share food\, drinks\, and conversations. \nWe’re meeting Thursday 22nd of May at 6:30 pm\, 67 Strait Street\, Valletta (Moviment Graffitti premises). \nMaïté (they/them) is a philosopher and policy officer in Belgium for Çavaria\, the LGBTQI+ rights advocacy organization. They work on a project titled “Gender Coalition.” This project is funded by the Institute for Equality between Women and Men in Belgium.

SUMMARY:Gig Għal Gżira - Manoel Island Post Għalina
DESCRIPTION:*TICKETS: https://fienta.com/manoel-island-sr* \nThe ‘Manoel Island Post Għalina’ Campaign seeks to bring the Manoel Island issue back to light at a time when the concession between the Maltese Parliament and MIDI is being renegotiated. We’re proposing a renegotiation that would turn Manoel Island into a national park instead of private apartments. This event is to raise funds for that campaign\, which\, of course\, has its costs. The money raised during this event will go directly back into the campaign\, and all musicians and event organisers involved are volunteers. For more information on the campaign itself\, visit https://www.manoelislandcampaign.com. \nEyes to Argus\, Karmaġenn (solo) and Marie Claire are well-known and loved by the local alternative music scene and have performed at Storeroom in the past. They’ve lovingly agreed to play as a contribution to the campaign. \nAdmission: €10Date: Sunday 18th MayTime: 8 PM

SUMMARY:Manoel Island: Post Għalina - Campaign Launch
DESCRIPTION:Manoel Island can be a place for all of us to enjoy. It is possible – but we only have a short window of opportunity to act. \nThe concession between the Maltese Parliament and MIDI to develop Manoel Island into a residential and commercial hub is currently being renegotiated. This campaign aims to put the issue of Manoel Island back on the national agenda. We stand at a crossroads\, a unique point in time where the future of Manoel Island is being questioned. Will it be used for commercial development\, turned into luxury residences\, a hotel\, a casino or can it become a landmark park for all to enjoy in the most urbanised part of Malta? \nDo you want to see more accessible public spaces in Malta? Join us for the launch of this campaign on Saturday 29th March at 10am! \nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/KnkwouGpeLBA263C9 \n****** \nManoel Island jista’ jkun post li ngawduh kollha kemm aħna. Din mhijiex xi ħaġa impossibbli — iżda għandna biss tieqa żgħira ta’ opportunità u rridu naġixxu malajr. \nIl-konċessjoni bejn il-Parlament Malti u l-MIDI biex Manoel Island tiġi żviluppata f’binjiet residenzjali u kummerċjali bħalissa qed tiġi nnegozjata mill-ġdid. L-għan ta’ din il-kampanja\, għalhekk\, huwa li nerġgħu nitfgħu lil Manoel Island fuq l-aġenda nazzjonali. Ninsabu f’salib it-toroq\, f’mument uniku fejn il-futur ta’ Manoel Island qed jerġa’ jinfetaħ għal possibbiltajiet oħra. Se tintuża għal żvilupp kummerċjali u narawha tinbidel f’residenzi lussużi\, lukanda\, u każinò? Jew tista’ ssir park nazzjonali għal kulħadd li jagħti nifs ġdid fl-aktar żona urbanizzata ta’ Malta? \nTixtieq tara aktar spazji pubbliċi aċċessibbli f’Malta? SUMMARY:Detention is NOT a Solution - Protest
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 18:00 on Friday\, 28 March\, in front of the Safi Detention Centre in order to stand in solidarity with our detained brothers and sisters. \nVulnerable people are being detained for up to two years in degrading\, unhygienic conditions without adequate access to legal aid or contact with the outside world. \nVulnerable people\, women and children\, LGBTQ+ individuals\, migrants traumatised by shipwreck\, and people with special needs should never be imprisoned. \nWe call on the authorities to: \n\nRelease all vulnerable persons and children from detention immediately\, including members of our LGBTQ+ community;\nIncrease transparency at Safi and allow NGOs and legal counsels greater access;\nHalt the practice of detaining people for extended periods of time who pose no threat to the community;\nExpand the use of alternatives to detention that are already well-established in Malta;\nHalt the raids that target long-standing members of our community\, whilst providing a pathway for those that remain undocumented to regularise their status.\n\n  \nWe cannot abide and standby as the authorities imprison vulnerable members of our community for years on end in inhuman and degrading conditions without access to adequate legal aid. \nWe firmly believe that all people\, not least children and vulnerable members of our communities\, deserve liberty\, the right to speedy due process and the right to a dignified existence.

SUMMARY:Marċ għal Jum il-Mara - Kull Mara\, Kuljum\, Kullimkien
DESCRIPTION:Ingħaqdu magħna għal marċ il-Belt Valletta\, fl-okkażjoni ta’ Jum il-Mara. \nEjjew u ħeġġu lil nisa oħra\, ħbieb oltre mill-ġeneru\, u lil dawk li jappoġġjawna biex jiġu magħkom. Ejjew b’kartelluni li jesprimu r-rabja\, il-karba għad-drittijiet riproduttivi u l-ħolm tagħkom għal liberazzjoni femminista. It-titlu ta’ din is-sena jenfasizza kif nisa minn kundizzjonijiet ekonomiċi\, oqsma soċjali u pajjiżi differenti spiss jitqabdu mal-istess ostakli. \nDin is-sena qed nagħmlu enfasi fuq il-ġustizzja riproduttiva – id-dritt li jkollok it-tfal kif u meta tiddeċiedi int\, id-dritt li ma jkollokx tfal\, id-dritt li trabbi lil uliedek f’ambjent sikur\, b’mod sostenibbli u f’ambjent li jipprijoritizza lil saħħithom. Nafu li l-kontraċezzjoni mhijiex aċċessibbli biżżejjed\, li l-abort huwa kriminalizzat\, nies b’kundizzjonijiet bħal endometriosi ma jirċevux l-għajnuna li għandhom bżonn\, u li mhux kull persuna li jkollha ċ-ċiklu mestrwali tiflaħ tħallas għal prodotti neċessarji. \nGħal nies li jridu jkollhom it-tfal – hemm biżżejjed appoġġ? Huma finanzjarjament stabbli biżżejjed biex ikunu jistgħu jrabbu t-tfal? Tniġġis\, kostruzzjoni bl-addoċċ\, nuqqas ta’ spazji ħodor – dan kollu għandu x’jaqsam mal-ġustizzja riproduttiva. \nLil hinn minn dan\, ma nistgħux ninjoraw ir-realtà ta’ kuljum li n-nisa jiffaċċjaw – sessiżmu\, fastidju\, stalking\, stupru\, vjolenza verbali u fiżika\, kummenti misoġeni\, differenza medja inġusta fil-pagi tan-nisa u l-irġiel\, u fil-qsim tax-xogħol tad-dar u tat-trobbija tat-tfal. Xi drabi dawn huma ovvji ħafna\, imma kemm-il darba jkunu tant sottili li diffiċli tagħrafhom u tindirizzahom. \nNiftakru wkoll fil-femmiċidji li saru f’Malta f’dawn l-aħħar snin. Nappellaw biex dawk fil-poter jiaħdmu għal bidla soċjali sinifikanti\, biex ikollna trasformazzjoni ħolistika tas-soċjetà patrijarkali li ngħixu fiha. \nAħna – nisa\, ħbieb oltre mill-ġeneru\, trans\, u alleati tagħna – jeħtieġ li nsemmgħu l-vuċi tagħna flimkien\, biex niġġieldu kontra l-oppressjoni tal-ġeneru f’jum simboliku bħal Jum il-Mara kif ukoll kuljum u kullimkien għal kull mara. \nNiltaqgħu fil-Pjazza Tritoni u nimxu fil-Belt Valletta\, sakem ningabru fi Pjazza San Ġorġ biex nisimghu diskorsi\, kant mill-Kor Re-Sisters\, u żifna komunitarja minn Fran Zammit (appoġġjata mid-Dipartiment tal-Istudji taż-Żfin\, fi ħdan l-Università ta’ Malta). \n****** \nMarch for Women’s Day – Every Woman\, Every Day\, Everywhere \nJoin us for a march in Valletta\, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. \nCome with other women\, non-binary friends\, and allies\, and bring placards voicing your anger and dreaming of a feminist liberation. This year’s title underlines how women from different social backgrounds\, economic conditions\, and diverse countries share the same struggles. \nOur focus this year is on reproductive justice – the right to not have children\, the right to have children\, and the right to parent children in safe\, healthy\, and sustainable environments. We know that contraception is not accessible enough\, abortion is criminalised\, people with conditions like endometriosis lack care\, and not everyone can afford period products. \nFor people who want to have children – is there enough support? Are people financially stable to be able to have and raise children? Pollution\, over-construction\, lack of green spaces – all of this relates to reproductive justice. \nBeyond reproductive justice\, we cannot ignore women’s everyday reality – facing sexism\, harassment\, stalking\, rape\, verbal and physical violence\, misogynistic comments\, an unjust pay gap and unfair sharing of parenting and housework. Sometimes these are very obvious\, sometimes they are more subtle\, which makes it harder to denounce and address these issues. \nWe must also continue to remember the femicides committed in Malta over the past years. We call for those in power to create meaningful change\, and work towards societal transformation. \nWe – women\, non-binary people\, trans people\, and allies – can use our voices to fight together against gender oppression\, on a symbolic day like Women’s Day\, as well as every day\, everywhere\, for every woman. \nWe will meet at Triton Fountain in Floriana\, walk through Valletta\, and gather in St. George’s Square to have speeches\, songs by the Re-sisters Choir\, and a community dance performance by Fran Zammit\, supported by the Department of Dance Studies at the University of Malta.
