SUMMARY:Screening - I Compagni
DESCRIPTION:In turn-of-the-twentieth-century Turin\, an accident in a textile factory incites workers to stage a walkout. But it’s not until they receive unexpected aid from a traveling professor (Marcello Mastroianni) that they find their voice\, unite\, and stand up for themselves. This historical drama by Mario Monicelli\, brimming with humor and honesty\, is a beautiful and moving ode to the power of the people\, and features engaging\, naturalistic performances; cinematography by the great Giuseppe Rotunno; and a multilayered\, Oscar-nominated screenplay by Monicelli\, Agenore Incrocci\, and Furio Scarpelli. \nThe film will be screened with English subtitles.

SUMMARY:Screening - Jimmy's Hall
DESCRIPTION:Second part of Moviment Graffitti curating Kinemastik Film Klub trilogy is Jimmy’s Hall by Ken Loach. \nIn the 1920s\, political activist Jimmy Gralton built a dance hall in rural Ireland. As the hall grew in popularity\, its free-spirited reputation brought it to the attention of the church and politicians who forced Jimmy to flee and the hall to close. \nA decade later\, at the height of the Depression\, Jimmy returns from the US. The hall stands abandoned but as Jimmy sees the poverty and growing oppression in the village\, the leader and activist within him is stirred. He decides to reopen the hall\, and so takes on the established authorities of the church and the government.

SUMMARY:Screening - The Wanted 18
DESCRIPTION:Opening their residency at the Film Klub\, Moviment Graffitti kindly introduce us to one of the strangest chapters in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. \nIt’s 1987\, and the first Palestinian popular movement in the West Bank is rising. Residents want local alternatives to Israeli goods\, including milk\, which they’ve been buying from an Israeli company. And so begins the strange story of the 18 cows. \nAcclaimed Palestinian artist Amer Shomali\, who illustrated The Wanted 18 and co-directed it with veteran Canadian director Paul Cowan\, watched the Intifada unfold as a teenager\, from the Syrian refugee camp where he grew up. His family was from Beit Sahour\, a town he knew only from family stories and news reports on TV. And then he read a comic book about the cows\, depicting them as sassy bovines who see absurdity all around them.
