The draft laws and legal notices presented by the Government seek to dismantle all existing protections in order to grant developers unlimited power. \nWe encourage you to visit our stand so that we may have the opportunity to speak with you about the impact of these alarming laws on Malta in general and on the locality of Birżebbuġa in particular\, as well as to receive your comments and suggestions. \nSee you there!

DESCRIPTION:To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women\, Moviment Graffitti invites the public to a demonstration on Sunday 23rd November at 4pm in front of Law Courts\, Valletta. \nWe want to underline the culture of verbal violence permeating our society on a daily basis\, from the hateful and sexist comments on social media to cat calling and disempowering insults. We want to give visibility to the violence\, physical and psychological\, happening inside houses\, behind closed doors\, in workplaces\, in schools\, and in other institutions. We want to remember the victims of all the femicides that happened in the past years in Malta\, and to say their names. \nWe invite the public to join us in the communal fight against patriarchal violence and to empower us to bring change. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday 20th November for the screening of this beautiful 2023 film C’è Ancora Domani\, by Paola Cortellesi which is being co-organised by Moviment Graffitti in collaboration with the Department of Gender and Sexualities of the University of Malta. \nThe film will start at 6.00 p.m. at Moviment Graffitti’s premises (67 Strait Street\, Valletta). \nThe story takes place in post war Rome\, in May 1946. Italian families are struggling with the afterwar poverty\, the country is waiting to choose between remaining a monarchy or becoming a republic and to vote for the election of the Constituent Assembly. Women are voting for the very first time. In this movie\, we follow the everyday life of Delia\, a working-class woman\, mother of three children and wife of Ivano. Her life is not easy .Between many jobs to earn some money\, she faces the physical and verbal abuse of her husband and strives to give her daughter a better future. The movie shows a reality that seems far away from us\, but as we all know systemic violence against women is still present in many different shapes. \nThis activity is being organised to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which falls on the 25th November. The Screening will be followed by an open discussion introduced by Professor Marceline Naudi. \nThe event is free of charge.

Madankollu\, minkejja l-għajta tal-poplu għal ġustizzja — inklużi dawk l-eluf li s-Sibt\, 4 ta’ Ottubru ħarġu jipprotestaw fit-toroq tal-Belt — il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela qed jibqa’ jirrifjuta li jisma’ lill-poplu. \nL-hekk imsejħa “riforma” tal-ippjanar hija mannara mdendla fuq għonq in-nies. The protest will start at 5:30pm from the Law Courts and move towards Parliament. \nWe have repeatedly stated that we would much rather sit around a table to discuss the urgent planning and environmental reforms our country needs. However\, despite the people’s cry for justice\, including the thousands who took to the streets on Saturday 4th October\, Prime Minister Robert Abela continues to refuse to listen. \nThis so-called planning reform is a Damocles’ sword hanging over the people’s heads. It is no coincidence that this protest will coincide with the presentation of the annual Budget. Our message is clear: this is not business as usual. \nThe two planning bills and three legal notices pose an imminent threat to our most cherished places\, our communities\, social justice\, and democracy. \nThey would dismantle all existing protections against unbridled construction by rendering planning regulations ineffective and placing full control in the hands of the corrupt Planning Authority. \nThey would also severely undermine the public’s right to effectively appeal illegal decisions\, and strip the Court of its power to revoke illegal permits. \nAdditionally\, the legal notices would grant a blanket amnesty for all sorts of illegalities committed up to last year\, with no limits on type\, size\, or location. \nWe strongly believe that the people have the power to stop this assault on their quality of life and are the last lines of defence against the greed of developers. Thus\, we call on the public to intensify this fight against the bullies of this country – those who believe that money gives them the right to trample over the common citizen. \nOn Monday 27th October\, we’ll show once again that we refuse to live under the reign of developers. \nTogether\, we’ll stop them! \nwww.gustizzjartna.org

DESCRIPTION:A national protest\, Ġustizzja għal Artna: Irtirawhom Issa!\, is being called for Saturday 4th October at 10am in response to the total assault on our environment and quality of life being pushed through under the guise of a planning “reform”. \nThe need for action is urgent and dire. Government is intent on forcing through two planning bills and three legal notices that will dismantle existing safeguards\, place serious obstacles to effective public appeals\, and regularise all kinds of illegalities across the country. \nIf this legal package is approved\, Malta and Gozo will be ruled entirely by the wishes of developers\, while the common people will be left under siege from harmful development permitted without even today’s minimal regulatory controls and scrutiny. \nThis is a grave threat to our country\, and only the people’s resistance can fend it off. \nOur demands are: \n\nThe immediate withdrawal of the draft bills and legal notices. Consultation cannot take place on legislation that is fundamentally flawed\, malicious in intent\, and beyond repair.\nThe urgent introduction of a measure suspending works on developments approved by the Planning Authority while an appeal is ongoing\, through an amendment to existing law.\nThe publication of a White Paper to launch a genuine consultation on the broader planning reforms Malta truly needs.\n\nPeople will gather at the Law Courts at 10am and march to Castille\, where speeches will take place. \nThe national protest is the first action announced as part of the Ġustizzja għal Artna campaign launched last week. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion on pinkwashing and a workshop on making placards!  \nOn Tuesday 9th September\, Moviment Graffitti is organising a queer placard making event. This activity is part of the events during Pride week and the placards can be used during the Pride March on Saturday. The activity will be held at our premises\, 67 Strait Street\, Valletta and will start at 6.30 p.m. \nThe theme of the event is pinkwashing which refers to the practice of using LGBTQ+ rights and symbols to hide or justify systems of oppression or injustice. \nThe activity will start with three short informal presentations about the three themes: The genocide in Palestine\, LGBTIQ+ Migrants\, and Business Corporations. There will be some time for questions\, clarifications and discussion. The second part will be dedicated to making the placards on the three themes. We will provide the materials for the placards. \nThe aim of this event is to challenge the use of LGBTQ+ struggles as a branding tool for states and businesses that continue to perpetuate exploitation and oppression. Through the messages on the placards we make\, we want to denounce pinkwashing\, and to express genuine solidarity with Palestinians\, migrants\, and all oppressed communities beyond rainbow capitalism. \nPlease join us for this fun and informative event and bring your friends along! \nBackground: Israel has long promoted itself as a queer-friendly state to obscure its ongoing genocide and occupation of Palestinians as well as the harassment and bullying of Palestinian members of the LGBTIQ+ community. Similarly\, multinational corporations use Pride symbolism to present themselves as queer friendly while continuing to profit from unethical practices\, the exploitation of workers and policies which do not benefit members of the LGBTIQ+ community. In Malta\, pinkwashing also intersects with the realities of migration: queer and trans migrants are often celebrated as symbols of diversity\, yet in practice\, many face detention\, racism\, and repatriation policies.

After 1 year and 10 months of genocidal mass murder of civilians – including the deliberate targeting of journalists\, healthcare professionals\, aid workers\, and aid seekers – Israel is now intensifying its genocide through mass starvation. \nImages of children dying from hunger\, and of the elderly collapsing to their deaths while waiting in vain for food\, should trigger the strongest reaction from any human being with even a shred of empathy! \nIt is therefore deeply hurtful and outrageous that Western governments continue either to proactively support the genocidal state of Israel or to take no meaningful action to stop the Israeli-imposed mass starvation of the Palestinian population in Gaza. \nRegrettably\, the Maltese Government is also failing abysmally to take the actions within its power to oppose this genocide. \nIn contrast with other European countries such as Ireland and Spain\, it has consistently failed to condemn Israel’s genocide on the international stage\, has reneged twice on its promise to recognise the State of Palestine\, and continues to allow ships flying the Maltese flag to transport weapons and military material to Israel. \nIn view of this inaction and complicity\, on Tuesday we will be calling for: \n\nA strong and unambiguous stand by the Maltese Government condemning Israel and calling for its sanctioning\, including the cancellation of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.\nThe prohibition of ships flying the Maltese flag from transporting weapons and military material to Israel\, along with a clear and enforced policy preventing ships carrying such material from entering Maltese waters or being serviced by vessels from Malta.\nThe immediate recognition by the Government of Malta of the State of Palestine.\n\nFREE PALESTINE  \nOrganisations:\nEmbassy of Palestine in MaltaĠustizzja għall-PalestinaMoviment GraffittiThe Lebanese AdvocatesThe Watermelon WarriorsYouth for Palestine

Contributors include diverse voices from various countries\, each recognizing the urgency and necessity of addressing the inhumane actions perpetrated against Palestine. \nThis evening will present a reading of the poems together with reflections by Dr David Aloisio\, lecturer\, University of Malta and award-winning author; his Excellency Fadi Hanania\, Palestinian Ambassador in Malta; Sarah Warderberg\, an activist and lawyer based in Malta with a law degree from Orebro University and a Master’s in intellectual history from the University of Gothenburg\, Sweden. \nIncome from the sale of this title will be donated for Palestine.

Short poems\, quotes\, powerful sentences will be shared with the participants\, who will read them in turn and also have space for comments\, impressions\, thoughts.\n7-8:30pm: Tombla Femminista. A proper Bingo with a feminist touch.\n8:30pm onwards: Music and socialising.\n\n  \nYou’re welcome to join for the whole FemiFest or drop in for your preferred activities! You can also simply join for the community beach day without taking part in any of the activities. \nPlease note that Manoel Island shore can be reached after a short 10-minute walk and the gate is open to enter only until 8.00 pm\, while you can leave at anytime. Also there are no shops at the seashore. Make sure to bring with you the drinks and snacks that you would wish to find there. \nWe will create an area for sharing food and drinks throughout the event. \nCome and experience an afternoon filled with a sense of community\, empowerment and inclusion; a space where you can express yourself without judgement\, and have fun! \nThis is a safe space activity: women\, non-binary and trans people are welcome. Afterwards\, the public is invited to share personal experiences related to endometriosis or other women’s health issues. Attendees are also welcome to ask questions\, express impressions or concerns\, and share ideas for overcoming the limitations of the current medical system. \nEntrance is free. Who are the key actors\, and how do they work to influence society? \nIn this event we’ll examine their strategies\, motivations\, and the broader impacts of their activities. Together\, we’ll explore how we can work collectively to protect and advance gender equality and human rights in the face of these challenges. Maïté’s presentation will be followed by a discussion and a moment to share food\, drinks\, and conversations. \nWe’re meeting Thursday 22nd of May at 6:30 pm\, 67 Strait Street\, Valletta (Moviment Graffitti premises). \nMaïté (they/them) is a philosopher and policy officer in Belgium for Çavaria\, the LGBTQI+ rights advocacy organization.
