SUMMARY:Malta: L-Ebda Mużika għall-Ġenoċidju - PROTESTA NAZZJONALI
DESCRIPTION:We are calling a national protest on Saturday\, 21 February\, at 3pm\, starting from outside Parliament in Valletta. \nArtists\, organisations\, communities\, and members of the public will unite to march for Malta’s withdrawal from the Eurovision 2026 as long as the genocidal state of Israel is allowed to participate. \nIsrael’s conduct constitutes a threat to all of humanity. Its ongoing genocide in Gaza has massacred over 70\,000 Palestinians\, the majority of whom are children\, and has razed the territory to the ground. This genocide follows decades of illegal occupation\, apartheid policies\, settler expansion\, and the mass kidnapping\, expulsion\, and dispossession of Palestinians. Israel is also currently extending its colonial occupation into Lebanon and Syria. \nThe arts and culture sphere – and the Eurovision in particular – does not exist separately from these realities. Cultural platforms are used by Israel to launder its blood-soaked reputation. Last year\, in the midst of the genocide in Gaza\, the Israeli broadcaster allocated a record budget to its Eurovision participation. In contrast\, Russia was immediately barred from the Eurovision following its invasion of Ukraine. \nIsrael should never have been allowed to participate in this competition or to present itself as a normal state while exterminating Palestinians and stealing their land. However\, since the European Broadcasting Union took the shameful decision to allow Israel’s participation\, Malta now has the opportunity to take a stand for justice and international law by joining Spain\, Iceland\, Slovenia\, the Netherlands\, and Ireland in withdrawing from this compromised competition. \nIt is not too late for Malta to stand for justice. Withdrawing from the Eurovision would represent a principled stand against the normalisation of genocide and in favour of freedom\, dignity\, and self-determination. \nOn Saturday\, 21 February\, we will march in Valletta to send a clear message to the Government: we refuse to be complicit in genocide. We want to be able to say\, with pride\, that Malta stood on the right side of history. \nEndorsements can be submitted via www.maltanomusicforgenocide.org or by emailing info@maltanomusicforgenocide.org \n****** \nQegħdin insejħu protesta nazzjonali nhar is-Sibt\, 21 ta’ Frar\, fit-3.00pm\, li tibda minn quddiem il-Parlament fil-Belt Valletta. \nArtisti\, għaqdiet\, komunitajiet u membri tal-pubbliku se jingħaqdu f’mixja biex jitolbu li Malta tirtira mill-Eurovision 2026 sakemm l-istat ġenoċidali tal-Iżrael jitħalla jipparteċipa. \nL-imġiba ta’ Iżrael hija ta’ theddida għall-umanità kollha. Il-ġenoċidju kontinwu tiegħu f’Gaża qatel aktar minn 70\,000 Palestinjan\, il-maġġoranza tagħhom tfal\, u qered it-territorju kważi kompletament. Dan il-ġenoċidju qed jitwettaq wara għexieren ta’ snin ta’ okkupazzjoni illegali\, politiki ta’ apartheid\, espansjoni tas-settlers\, u ħtif\, tkeċċija u esproprjazzjoni tal-massa tal-poplu Palestinjan. L-Iżrael bħalissa qed jestendi wkoll l-okkupazzjoni kolonjali tiegħu fil-Libanu u fis-Sirja. \nIl-qasam tal-arti u l-kultura – u l-Eurovision b’mod partikolari – ma jeżistix separatament minn dawn ir-realtajiet. Pjattaformi kulturali jintużaw mill-Iżrael biex jaħsel ir-reputazzjoni mdemmija tiegħu. Is-sena l-oħra\, f’nofs il-ġenoċidju f’Gaża\, ix-xandar Iżraeljan alloka baġit rekord għall-parteċipazzjoni tiegħu fl-Eurovision. B’kuntrast\, ir-Russja ġiet eskluża immedjatament mill-Eurovision wara l-invażjoni tagħha tal-Ukrajna. \nL-Iżrael qatt ma kellu jitħalla jipparteċipa f’din il-kompetizzjoni jew jitħalla jippreżenta ruħu bħala stat normali waqt li qed jeqred lill-Palestinjani u jisraq l-art tagħhom. Madankollu\, peress li l-EBU ħadet id-deċiżjoni tal-mistħija li tippermetti l-parteċipazzjoni tal-Iżrael\, Malta issa għandha l-opportunità li tieħu pożizzjoni favur il-ġustizzja u d-dritt internazzjonali billi tingħaqad ma’ Spanja\, l-Iżlanda\, is-Slovenja\, l-Olanda u l-Irlanda fl-irtirar minn din il-kompetizzjoni kompromessa. \nGħadu mhux tard wisq biex Malta tieħu pożizzjoni favur il-ġustizzja. L-irtirar mill-Eurovision ikun att ta’ prinċipju kontra n-normalizzazzjoni tal-ġenoċidju u favur il-libertà\, id-dinjità u l-awtodeterminazzjoni. \nNhar is-Sibt\, 21 ta’ Frar\, se nimxu fil-Belt Valletta biex nibagħtu messaġġ ċar lill-Gvern: nirrifjutaw li nkunu kompliċi fil-ġenoċidju. Irridu nkunu nistgħu ngħidu\, kburin\, li Malta kienet fuq in-naħa tas-sewwa tal-istorja. \nAppoġġ jista’ jingħata permezz tas-sit www.maltanomusicforgenocide.org jew billi jintbagħat email fuq info@maltanomusicforgenocide.org.

SUMMARY:Il-Marċ ta' Jum il-Mara 2026: Jum il-Mara Kuljum!
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the 8th of March in our fight for solidarity\, liberation\, and equality. This International Women’s Day we are marching the streets of Valletta to raise our voices and demand dignity and justice for all women\, non-binary\, and trans folk. \nThe first Women’s March in 1909 grew out of the labour movement as women marched for shorter working hours\, better pay and the right to vote. While International Women’s Day celebrates how far women’s rights and gender equality have come\, it is critical to highlight the erasure of women’s rights across the world\, as well as the effects of gender violence and abuse. \nIn the past years\, women around the globe\, including in Iran\, Palestine\, Afghanistan and Sudan\, have been fighting for their rights amongst war and violence. 1 out of 3 women in the EU aged 18-74 have experienced physical or sexual violence. And women in Malta are still denied their reproductive autonomy due to the criminalisation of abortion. \nWomen face struggles every day\, which is why this year our theme is “Women’s day every day”. \nWhilst women continue to fight for what they deserve\, we will keep advocating for policies and legislations that help women\, we will keep calling out sexist and abusive behaviour\, and we will not stop being loud until every woman is free. \nThe Women’s March will start at Triton Fountain in Floriana at 15:00 and will finish at St. George’s square with speeches\, and live music. \nLet’s voice our anger against the injustices that we face on a daily basis. \nLet’s march together as one voice\, as sisters united in our struggle for change. \n****** \nIngħaqdu magħna fit-8 ta’ Marzu fil-ġlieda tagħna għas-solidarjetà\, il-libertà u l-ugwaljanza. F’dan il-Jum Internazzjonali tan-Nisa\, se nimxu fit-toroq tal-Belt Valletta biex ngħollu leħinna u nitolbu dinjità u ġustizzja għan-nisa kollha\, persuni non-binary u trans. \nL-ewwel marċ ta’ Jum il-Mara fl-1909 ħareġ mill-moviment tal-ħaddiema\, meta n-nisa ħarġu fit-toroq biex jitolbu sigħat tax-xogħol iqsar\, paga aħjar u d-dritt tal-vot. Filwaqt li l-Jum Internazzjonali tan-Nisa jiċċelebra l-avvanzi fid-drittijiet tan-nisa u l-ugwaljanza bejn is-sessi\, huwa kruċjali li nkomplu nenfasizzaw it-tnaqqir tad-drittijiet tan-nisa madwar id-dinja\, kif ukoll l-effetti tal-vjolenza u l-abbuż ibbażati fuq il-ġeneru. \nFl-aħħar snin\, nisa madwar id-dinja — inkluż fl-Iran\, fil-Palestina\, fl-Afganistan u fis-Sudan — ilhom jiġġieldu għad-drittijiet tagħhom qalb gwerer u vjolenza. Mara waħda minn kull tlieta fl-UE\, bejn it-18 u l-74 sena\, esperjenzat xi forma ta’ vjolenza fiżika jew sesswali. U n-nisa f’Malta għadhom miċħuda mill-awtonomija riproduttiva tagħhom minħabba l-kriminalizzazzjoni tal-abort. \nIn-nisa jaffaċċjaw sfidi kuljum\, u għalhekk it-tema ta’ din is-sena hija “Jum il-Mara Kuljum” \nIn-nisa se jkomplu jiġġieldu għal dak li jistħoqqilhom. Aħna se nkomplu ninsistu għal politiki u liġijiet li jappoġġjaw lin-nisa\, se nkomplu nikkundannaw imġieba sessista u abbużiva\, u mhux se nieqfu nsemmgħu leħinna sakemm kull mara tkun ħielsa. \nIl-Marċ se jibda mill-Funtana tat-Tritoni fil-Furjana fit-15:00 u jintemm fi Pjazza San Ġorġ b’diskorsi u mużika live. \nEjjew ngħollu leħinna kontra l-inġustizzji li naffaċċjaw ta’ kuljum. \nEjjew nimxu flimkien\, b’vuċi waħda\, bħal aħwa magħqudin fil-ġlieda tagħna għall-bidla ta’ veru.

SUMMARY:Ġustizzja Għal Artna: Ir-Riformi li Neħtieġu
DESCRIPTION:Il-kampanja favur Ġustizzja għal Artna se tkompli\, u mill-ġdid qed nitolbu l-appoġġ sħiħ tagħkom. \nNhar is-Sibt\, 11 ta’ April\, se nniedu Ġustizzja għal Artna: Ir-Riformi li Neħtieġu. Filwaqt li se ntennu t-talba tagħna sabiex jiġu rtirati ż-żewġ abbozzi tal-liġi u t-tliet avviżi legali li ressaq il-Gvern\, se nippreżentaw ukoll il-proposti tagħna għal riforma fl-ippjanar ta’ veru\, imsejsa fuq l-interessi ta’ pajjiżna u mhux l-interessi tal-iżviluppaturi. \nIlna snin twal nitolbu b’mod urġenti riforma fl-ippjanar li tindirizza l-ħerba li għandna fl-ippjanar\, fl-ambjent u fil-kwalità tal-ħajja tagħna – minn bini bl-addoċċ sa kummerċ bla rażan\, assalt fuq il-biedja\, u qerda tal-ambjent naturali. \nGħalhekk\, meta f’Lulju li għadda l-Gvern ippreżenta l-hekk imsejħa riforma fl-ippjanar\, li fil-fatt kienet lista tax-xewqat tal-iżviluppaturi\, ir-rabja ta’ ħafna nies kellha żewġ aspetti: dawn il-liġijiet mhux biss kienu se jżarmaw il-protezzjoni li għad fadal mir-regħba tal-ftit\, imma kienu wkoll opportunità mitlufa biex isiru r-riformi li veru neħtieġu. \nIngħaqdu magħna għal konferenza stampa nhar is-Sibt\, 11 ta’ April\, fl-10.30am\, quddiem Kastilja\, sabiex nuru li l-poplu jrid riforma li tħares il-ġid komuni. Se nippreżentaw erba’ proposti fl-oqsma ta’: l-appelli fl-ippjanar\, l-infurzar\, is-sanzjonar fl-ODZ\, u l-klassifikazzjoni ta’ art bħala ODZ. \nNarawkom. \nwww.gustizzjartna.org \nThe campaign in favor of justice for our land will continue\, and once again we are asking for your full support. \nOn Saturday\, 11 April\, we will launch Ġustizzja għal Artna: The Reforms We Need. While we will reiterate our call for the withdrawal of the two bills and the three legal notices put forward by the Government\, we will also present our proposals for genuine planning reform\, based on the interests of our country rather than those of developers. \nFor many years\, we have been urgently calling for planning reform that addresses the mess we are facing in planning\, the environment\, and our quality of life — from unbridled construction to unrestrained commercial activity\, attacks on agriculture\, and the destruction of the natural environment. \nTherefore\, when last July the Government presented the so-called planning reform\, which in reality was a developers’ wish list\, many people’s anger had two dimensions: these laws would not only dismantle what little protection remains from the greed of a few\, but they also represented a missed opportunity to implement the reforms we truly need. \nJoin us for a Press Conference on Saturday\, 11 April\, at 10:30am\, in front of Castille\, to show that the people want reforms for the common good. We will present four proposals in the areas of: planning appeals\, enforcement\, sanctioning in ODZ areas\, and the classification of land as ODZ. \nSee you there. \nwww.gustizzjartna.org

SUMMARY:Film Screening: The Teacher Who Promised the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the screening of The Teacher Who Promised the Sea\, to remember the Second Spanish Republic. \nThe Teacher Who Promised the Sea (Spanish: El maestro que prometió el mar) is a 2023 Spanish historical drama film directed by Patricia Font. It tells the story of Catalan teacher Antoni Benaiges\, who in 1935 is sent to a small village in the province of Burgos\, where he introduces an innovative and inspiring teaching method. Antoni is a man who supports the revolutionary changes that the Second Republic was trying to implement in society. \nThe film also follows a present-day story: Ariadna\, who seeks to find out what happened to her great-grandfather\, who disappeared during the war. \nEl Día de la II República (Day of the Second Spanish Republic) takes place every year on the 14th of April. On that day in 1931\, following democratic elections and the abdication and exile of King Alfonso XIII\, the Second Republic was declared. \nIt was a democratic period. In just a few years\, significant social and economic changes were implemented\, such as granting women the right to vote\, improving the education system\, supporting cultural and scientific endeavours\, challenging the privileges of the Church\, and promoting a plurinational state\, among others. This period was abruptly interrupted by a coup d’état in 1936\, which triggered a three-year civil war\, leaving more than 500\,000 people dead and resulting in a fascist dictatorship that lasted 38 years. \nBefore the screening\, Kor ReSister and AMU (Antifascist Musical Union) will sing a few songs related to the Spanish Second Republic. \nFree entrance. Please note that there are stairs to access the venue.

SUMMARY:Antifascist Bingo\, Music\, and Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the occasion of Italian Liberation Day from Nazi-fascist occupation. \nWe will start at 5pm with two rounds of antifascist bingo. Through numbers\, we will remember historical antifascist and resistance facts. \nAfterwards\, the public is invited to listen or join the Kor Re-Sisters as they sing resistance songs. \nFrom 8pm\, we will share a vegetarian dinner together (more details to come). \nOn 25 April 1945\, the liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascist occupation was declared\, thanks to the resistance of various antifascist forces and the armed partisan movement. \nToday\, more than ever\, our world is being threatened again by the far-right and recent fascist movements. But\, as Chumbawamba sing\, “we’ll never rest again\, until every fascist dies!” \nThere is renewed hope in Italy after the younger generation stood together to vote no in the last referendum\, defending democracy\, justice\, and the antifascist constitution. \nSing along with us\, stay for our antifascist bingo and dinner! \nBingo and music are free. Please note that the venue is only accessible by stairs.
