SUMMARY:End the Genocide in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:Palestinians in Gaza are being massacred by Israel with the complicity of Europe. Continuous bombardments\, including the bombardment of a school and a hospital\, led to thousands of children\, women and men to be brutally killed. And Gaza is also dying of thirst\, hunger and desperation after Israel stopped the supply of water\, food and fuel. \nOn Saturday we are meeting in front of Parliament in Valletta\, where we will lie on the ground in solidarity with the people of Gaza\, the victims of a cruel oppression that we cannot even start to imagine. \nGaza is a strip of land the size of Malta\, turned into a prison by Israel in 2007. Around two and a half million Palestinians live on this piece of land\, most of them refugees forcibly displaced from their land in 1948 with the creation of the Israeli state. \nFor 75 years\, Israel has been forcing Palestinians out of their homes while implementing an apartheid system. And in these last two corners that they have left – Gaza and the West Bank – Israel has continued to colonise Palestinians and to keep them under siege. \nBut now Israel has moved on to the next phase: Genocide. \nThere has never been a time when international solidarity with the Palestinian people was needed as much as it is today. Europe should immediately ask for the attacks on Gaza to stop and impose sanctions on Israel as long as it continues to occupy Palestinian territories. \nSee you on Saturday! \n****** \nIl-Palestinjani f’Gaża qed jiġu mmassakrati mill-Iżrael bil-kompliċità tal-Ewropa. DESCRIPTION:25th November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Moviment Graffitti\, together with Young Progressive Beings\, is organising a protest march and action as a form of resistance to the culture of violence that characterises our patriarchal society. \nA culture of violence is one which normalises\, justifies and therefore creates a context where violence can flourish in all its forms. Violence against women can be domestic\, physical\, sexual\, social\, moral\, psychological\, economic\, political\, religious\, financial you name it\, women have been subjected to it. We live in a society where violence against women is often concealed behind jokes\, unwanted comments full of sexual connotations (often disguised as compliments)\, and other stereotyped behaviour. \n\nOn Sunday 26th November\, we will be meeting near the Triton Fountain at 11.00 a.m. to march in protest against this culture of violence and to empower women to resist violence in all its forms. Join us. Be part of the fight against gender-based violence\, which affects mostly women. You can bring your own placards or use ours.

SUMMARY:Genocide in the Mediterranean - Gaza Beach Symbolic Action
DESCRIPTION:Not too far away from us\, on the coast of the Mediterranean\, a genocide is currently unfolding before our eyes. Like Malta\, Gaza has sandy beaches\, with the difference that on them and around them\, a genocide is being perpetrated by Israel on the Palestinians. \nOn Saturday 3rd February at 3pm\, we will be gathering at Għadira Bay in a symbolic action against the genocide in Gaza\, where we will call for action by Malta and the rest of the world so that Israel ends its atrocities against the Palestinian people. \nThe International Court of Justice (ICJ) has just rejected Israel’s request to stop hearing the accusations of genocide against it. The Court also recognised the alarming nature of the actions and statements by Israel’s leaders\, ordering Israel to stop killing the Palestinians and to end its siege on Gaza. \nHowever\, Israel had already stated that it would not be abiding by the decisions of the international courts. \nThe genocide of the Palestinians is still ongoing\, and it will not stop as long as Israel continues to receive support from the United States and Europe. \nWe invite you to join us on Saturday\, so that we continue to show our solidarity with the Palestinians in such a tragic moment in recent history. \n FREE PALESTINE  \n******* \nĠENOĊIDJU FIL-MEDITERRAN – AZZJONI SIMBOLIKA ‘BAJJA TA’ GAŻA’ \nFtit ‘il bogħod minna\, fil-Mediterran\, għaddej ġenoċidju. Dan il-jum iservi biex niftakru fil-ġlidiet u r-rebħiet tagħhom\, filwaqt li nagħrfu dak li għad baqa’ xi jsir biex inkunu nistgħu ngħixu f’soċjetà fejn kulħadd jikkollabora flimkien biex negħlbu l-isterjotipi\, il-vjolenza abbażi tal-ġeneru\, il-femiċidju\, il-kultura tal-istupru\, it-tqassim inġust tat-trobbija tat-tfal u tax-xogħol tad-dar\, il-privileġġ maskili f’ħafna oqsma tal-ħajja ta’ kuljum\, is-sessiżmu u l-lingwaġġ sessist\, id-differenzi fil-qligħ\, nuqqas ta’ servizzi u drittijiet riproduttivi\, u l-lista ma tispiċċa qatt. \nNisa\, persuni non-binary u persuni trans madwar id-dinja għadhom iħossu passjoni qawwija għal dan il-jum simboliku\, kif ukoll dawk li jappoġġjaw il-ġlieda għal soċjetà ħielsa minn dominanza patrijarkali. Għalhekk din is-sena għażilna t-tema Flimkien għal Liberazzjoni Kollettiva biex insostnu l-ħtieġa li ningħaqdu flimkien għall-bidla. This day is about remembering their struggles and achievements\, while being aware of what there is still to be done for us to be able live in a society where all people can collaborate together to overcome gender stereotypes\, gender-based violence\, femicide\, rape culture\, unfair sharing of parenting and housework\, male privilege in many spheres of daily life\, sexism and sexist language\, wage gaps\, inadequate reproductive services and rights\, and the list is endless. \nWomen\, non-binary and trans people all around the world still feel deeply passionate about this symbolic day\, as well as all allies in the struggle for a society free from patriarchal domination. Hence this year we have chosen the title United for Collective Liberation to underline the need to join forces for change. We are also looking for a change that will liberate women from oppression and injustice. Small amendments and improvements towards justice are essential but our aim is to see a much more radical\, global change in relationships and institutions. \nWe will be marching with anger and frustration\, remembering all the sisters we have lost in the past years and their families that are still waiting for justice. We believe it is important to name Sion\, Bernice\, Paulina and the last woman who was killed by the hands of someone who was supposed to love her\, Sandra Ramirez. \nJoin us on Friday\, 8th March at 5.30 pm near the Triton Fountain in Floriana where we will start our protest march. \nCome and bring other women\, non-binary friends and allies. DESCRIPTION:This Saturday 6th April at 11am\, we will be joining the Valletta residents in front of Parliament to protest against the current state of Valletta. \nThe occupation of public spaces in Valletta by tables\, chairs and other structures placed on public land by catering outlets has now exceeded all limits. \nDespite there being clear policies that are meant to regulate the operation of outdoor catering areas\, enforcement is largely non-existent. The authorities concerned\, namely the Lands Authority\, the Planning Authority and the MTA are clearly not fit for the job. \nDue to the impunity that reigns in this sector\, the owners of catering establishments are running roughshod over the right of residents to public accessibility and a decent quality of life. The Valletta residents are having to bear to brunt of the unbridled commercialisation of their public spaces. \nAs the Office of the Ombudsman stressed\, the situation is so desperate that emergency vehicles such as ambulances are finding carriageways blocked as they have to squeeze past tables and chairs to get to people in distress. All these illegalities and abuses are making the life of Valletta residents very difficult. \nResidents from other localities who are also facing the same problems\, including Sliema\, Buġibba\, Marsaskala and Mellieħa\, will be joining us for this protest organised by the Valletta residents. \nOur capital city\, which is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site\, is an integral part of our collective cultural heritage and must be protected. SUMMARY:Remembering the Nakba\, Denouncing Genocide
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 15 May we’ll meet at 6.30pm in Independence Gardens\, Sliema\, to remember the Nakba and denounce the genocide in Gaza. We’ll walk to Exiles bay (under the St. Julian’s Tower) where\, starting from 7.30pm\, there will be a symbolic event and open mic in solidarity with Palestine. \nIn the years and months leading to the 15th May of 1948 — the day the state of Israel was established — Zionist militias designed a plan for killing and expelling hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their lands so that they could declare a state of Israel with the maximum amount of land and the minimum amount of Palestinians in it. \nMore than 750\,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their cities\, villages and fields. Thousands of Palestinians were murdered and buried in mass graves\, while the terrorized others were forced to flee to Arab countries\, the West Bank and Gaza. \nIsraeli cities rose on the ruins of the Palestinian cities and villages\, while millions of Palestinians were born in refugee camps\, denied their right to return to their lands and homes. \nTo Palestinians\, this is known as the Nakba — the Catastrophe. \nA catastrophe that has been ongoing since then. Palestinians continued experiencing the occupation of the little land they had left\, imprisonment\, apartheid\, theft of their resources\, illegal blockades and\, now\, genocide. \nWith the full support of many Western countries\, Israel has butchered over 35\,000 Palestinians in Gaza\, for the most part women and children\, and razed to the ground Gaza’s infrastructure\, including schools\, hospitals and refugee camps. \nHowever\, in the face of all adversity\, Palestinians continue to resist. \nWe will not forget the Nakba\, we will not forget Gaza and we will not forget the Palestinians. \nIn these deeply painful times\, solidarity is needed more than ever. Despite the various promises made by the Government that action will be taken against the excessive encroachment of public spaces by business and to restore public access\, effective action and serious enforcement are still nowhere to be seen. \n5 months after we launched the “Il-Bankini taċ-Ċittadini” campaign together with various residents’ groups\, on Sunday 22nd September we shall be meeting again in Merchants Street to take to the streets of Valletta for a Protest March. We will be passing through some streets in Valletta — that look more like an obstacle course with each passing day — to highlight how safe and public access is practically non-existent. \nThe rampant take-up of public land by business is adding to the deterioration of our quality of life. We aim to continue participating in the global movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people and all those targeted by Israeli violence and oppression. \nOver the past year\, more than 42\,000 Palestinians have been massacred in Gaza\, mostly children and women\, while the rest of the population faces starvation and disease. In the occupied West Bank\, Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians have greatly intensified\, and Israeli occupation forces have escalated their deadly assaults on villages\, refugee camps\, journalists\, and activists. \nFrom the outset\, the state of Israel has had a clear project to expel Palestinians from their land in order to colonise it. We encourage you to wear black. \nWe the undersigned groups and individuals\, concerned about the growing military escalation in the Mediterranean region\, stand here today to deliver our message to the government and people of the United States of America. \nThe catastrophic situation in Gaza\, in Lebanon and the Middle East Region today was not inevitable. The failure to prevent this catastrophe is a horrifying failure of global and western diplomacy\, and will go down on history as one of humanity’s most shameful chapters since the second world war. Further deterioration may still be avoided. \nRecalling the letter sent on 13 October 2024 by the United States Government\, exhorting the Government of Israel to take concrete measures to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza over the following 30 days\, or face a reduction in the military support being funded by the United States taxpayer; \nRecalling the succession of warnings by the UN rapporteur\, by international bodies and by the United States Government of the possibility that war crimes were being committed by Israel in Gaza; \nWe note with the deepest concern that the humanitarian situation has continued to deteriorate further\, most critically in northern Gaza. \nWe further note that the deadline of 12 November\, set by the Government of the United States\, has come and gone\, however the concerns that were raised repeatedly by the United States Government have not yet been translated into meaningful action. \nWe urge you to take concrete steps to stop facilitating\, enabling\, and further aggravating the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe through the supply of weapons and military hardware to the region.

DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, 1st December\, Moviment Graffitti will be joining other organisations to commemorate World AIDS Day. This is an international day of remembrance for all those lost to the AIDS epidemic. \n\n To mark this day\, a coalition of organisations\, Checkpoint Malta\, HIV Malta\, MGRM\, Moviment Graffitti\, LGBTI+ Gozo\, Allied Rainbow Communities – ARC and aditus\, will be organising We Are Positive: Time for Action – World AIDS Day Rally\, at Castille Square in Valletta at 11.00 a.m.\n The aim of the rally is to give visibility to HIV\, to fight the stigma that still surrounds HIV\, and to give a human face to HIV. The rally will also emphasise the importance of testing for HIV since that is the only way that HIV can be managed. Not knowing one’s status and not taking medication will lead to advanced HIV (AIDS).\nPeople living with HIV face a great deal of stigma to the extent that they often keep their status a secret. As a result\, they have very few sources of support. Additionally\, there is very little public awareness about this topic. Not many people may know that nowadays\, with regular medication\, the virus is controlled to the extent that it cannot be passed on to others during sex. Therefore people with HIV who have access to medication can live long and healthy lives. Therefore\, the coalition believes that HIV medication should be accessible to everyone regardless of nationality and residency status.\n The organisations will also remind the government that it has yet to fulfil its electoral promise of providing free preventive medication\, PrEP and PEP for those who are at risk of contracting HIV and spreading it to others. Malta has one of the highest HIV diagnoses in Europe and there are hundreds of people living with HIV in Malta.\n\nCome and join us in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

This year’s title underlines how women from different social backgrounds\, economic conditions\, and diverse countries share the same struggles. \nOur focus this year is on reproductive justice – the right to not have children\, the right to have children\, and the right to parent children in safe\, healthy\, and sustainable environments. We know that contraception is not accessible enough\, abortion is criminalised\, people with conditions like endometriosis lack care\, and not everyone can afford period products. \nFor people who want to have children – is there enough support? Are people financially stable to be able to have and raise children? Pollution\, over-construction\, lack of green spaces – all of this relates to reproductive justice. \nBeyond reproductive justice\, we cannot ignore women’s everyday reality – facing sexism\, harassment\, stalking\, rape\, verbal and physical violence\, misogynistic comments\, an unjust pay gap and unfair sharing of parenting and housework. Sometimes these are very obvious\, sometimes they are more subtle\, which makes it harder to denounce and address these issues. \nWe must also continue to remember the femicides committed in Malta over the past years. We call for those in power to create meaningful change\, and work towards societal transformation. \nWe – women\, non-binary people\, trans people\, and allies – can use our voices to fight together against gender oppression\, on a symbolic day like Women’s Day\, as well as every day\, everywhere\, for every woman. \nWe will meet at Triton Fountain in Floriana\, walk through Valletta\, and gather in St. George’s Square to have speeches\, songs by the Re-sisters Choir\, and a community dance performance by Fran Zammit\, supported by the Department of Dance Studies at the University of Malta.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at 18:00 on Friday\, 28 March\, in front of the Safi Detention Centre in order to stand in solidarity with our detained brothers and sisters. \nVulnerable people are being detained for up to two years in degrading\, unhygienic conditions without adequate access to legal aid or contact with the outside world. \nVulnerable people\, women and children\, LGBTQ+ individuals\, migrants traumatised by shipwreck\, and people with special needs should never be imprisoned. \nWe call on the authorities to: \n\nRelease all vulnerable persons and children from detention immediately\, including members of our LGBTQ+ community;\nIncrease transparency at Safi and allow NGOs and legal counsels greater access;\nHalt the practice of detaining people for extended periods of time who pose no threat to the community;\nExpand the use of alternatives to detention that are already well-established in Malta;\nHalt the raids that target long-standing members of our community\, whilst providing a pathway for those that remain undocumented to regularise their status.\n\n  \nWe cannot abide and standby as the authorities imprison vulnerable members of our community for years on end in inhuman and degrading conditions without access to adequate legal aid. \nWe firmly believe that all people\, not least children and vulnerable members of our communities\, deserve liberty\, the right to speedy due process and the right to a dignified existence.

SUMMARY:Act NOW Against Genocide in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 29th July at 6:30pm\, we will gather at the Triton Fountain in Valletta and march to Castille Square to demand meaningful action by the Maltese Government against Israel’s mass starvation of Palestinians in Gaza. \nChildren\, women\, and men in Gaza are currently being starved to death. After 1 year and 10 months of genocidal mass murder of civilians – including the deliberate targeting of journalists\, healthcare professionals\, aid workers\, and aid seekers – Israel is now intensifying its genocide through mass starvation. \nImages of children dying from hunger\, and of the elderly collapsing to their deaths while waiting in vain for food\, should trigger the strongest reaction from any human being with even a shred of empathy! \nIt is therefore deeply hurtful and outrageous that Western governments continue either to proactively support the genocidal state of Israel or to take no meaningful action to stop the Israeli-imposed mass starvation of the Palestinian population in Gaza. \nRegrettably\, the Maltese Government is also failing abysmally to take the actions within its power to oppose this genocide. \nIn contrast with other European countries such as Ireland and Spain\, it has consistently failed to condemn Israel’s genocide on the international stage\, has reneged twice on its promise to recognise the State of Palestine\, and continues to allow ships flying the Maltese flag to transport weapons and military material to Israel. \nIn view of this inaction and complicity\, on Tuesday we will be calling for: \n\nA strong and unambiguous stand by the Maltese Government condemning Israel and calling for its sanctioning\, including the cancellation of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.\nThe prohibition of ships flying the Maltese flag from transporting weapons and military material to Israel\, along with a clear and enforced policy preventing ships carrying such material from entering Maltese waters or being serviced by vessels from Malta.\nThe immediate recognition by the Government of Malta of the State of Palestine.\n\nFREE PALESTINE  \nOrganisations:\nEmbassy of Palestine in MaltaĠustizzja għall-PalestinaMoviment GraffittiThe Lebanese AdvocatesThe Watermelon WarriorsYouth for Palestine

DESCRIPTION:As in previous years\, Moviment Graffitti will be participating in the Pride March on Saturday\, 13th September. The March will start at around 5.00 pm. \nBefore the March\, Moviment Graffitti will once again be opening its premises to provide a safe space for anyone who would like to come and have a drink with us and prepare for the March. \nThose who would like to come and dress for the Pride\, do their makeup\, make placards (we have the materials)\, or meet others are welcome to come to our premises at 67 Strait Street\, Valletta. \nJust be yourself. No judgement. Just Pride! \nThe premises will be open between 2.00 pm and 4.30 pm. \nWe would love to meet you there! Come and bring others with you. \nPlease note that unfortunately our premises are located in an old Valletta building with steep steps. Therefore the space is not accessible for persons with serious mobility issues. We regret the inconvenience. \nNote: The guest list for this event is not visible.
