Join us for our queer film screening of the month – leading up to Lesbian Visibility Day, we’re happy to be screening the first feature film directed by a black lesbian artist.
Cheryl Dunye, who wrote, directed and edited the movie, also plays the role of Cheryl, a young woman working a day job in a video store while trying to make a film about Fae Richards, a Black actress from the 1930s known for playing the stereotypical “mammy” roles to which Black actresses were relegated during the period.
