Demonstration in Valletta to Mark One Year of Genocide in Gaza

Activists, organisations, and communities will meet outside Parliament, in Valletta, this Sunday 6th October at 3pm to mark one year of genocide in Gaza. The demonstration, organised by Moviment Graffitti, the Embassy of Palestine in Malta, the Watermelon Warriors, Youth for Palestine, and Ġustizzja għall-Palestina, will also include the participation of several other groups (see list below).

As part of the event, a visual installation commemorating the victims of this genocide will be displayed next to the Parliament building.

The organisers are calling on the Government of Malta to adopt a clearer and more decisive stance against the genocide and ongoing Israeli oppression. Malta has yet to reaffirm its recognition of the State of Palestine, and its statements on international platforms remain ambiguous — avoiding the direct identification of genocide and stopping short of advocating for sanctions against Israel.

Additionally, the Maltese government is being urged to publicly declare that it will not allow the passage of military supplies to Israel through its waters and airspace.

We cannot stand idly by as we witness one year of genocide in Gaza and 76 years of relentless oppression by Israel against the Palestinian people. Since its establishment, the State of Israel has pursued a systematic campaign to expel Palestinians from their land in order to colonise its. For Palestinians, this has resulted in decades of occupation, apartheid, and ongoing massacres.

In the last year alone, over 42,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, have been massacred in Gaza, while the remaining population is subjected to starvation and disease. In the occupied West Bank, violence against Palestinians has intensified through Israeli settler attacks, and Israeli forces have escalated their assaults on villages, refugee camps, journalists, and activists.

The complicity of many Western countries in Israel’s atrocities has allowed this unbearable situation to deteriorate further. Israel has now intensified its brutal aggression against the Lebanese people, who have long endured the brunt of Israel’s terror and colonial ambitions. Over 1,000 Lebanese have been killed by Israel over just the past few days, and over 1 million people have been forced to flee from their homes.

We urge the public to join us on Sunday in expressing collective outrage at these atrocities and in standing in solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples in their ongoing struggle for justice and freedom.

Dimostrazzjoni l-Belt biex infakkru Sena ta’ Ġenoċidju f’Gaża

Attivisti, organizzazzjonijiet u komunitajiet se jiltaqgħu quddiem il-Parlament, il-belt Valletta, nhar il-Ħadd li ġej, is-6 ta’ Ottubru fit-3pm biex ifakkru sena ta’ ġenoċidju f’Gaża. Id-dimostrazzjoni, organizzata mill-Moviment Graffitti, L-Ambaxxata tal-Palestina f’Malta, il-Watermelon Warriors, il-Youth for Palestine, u Ġustizzja għall-Palestina, se tinkludi wkoll il-parteċipazzjoni ta’ ħafna gruppi oħrajn (ara l-lista iktar ‘l isfel).

Bħala parti mill-attività, se tiġi esebita stallazzjoni viżwali biswit il-bini tal-Parlament li tfakkar il-vittmi ta’ dan il-ġenoċidju.

L-organizzaturi qegħdin isejħu sabiex il-Gvern Malti jieħu pożizzjoni iktar ċara u deċisiva kontra l-ġenoċidju u l-oppressjoni kontinwa mill-Iżrael. Malta għadha ma tennietx ir-rikonoxximent tagħha tal-Istat Palestinjan, u d-dikjarazzjonijiet tagħha fi pjattaformi internazzjonali huma pjuttost ambigwi – ma jidentifikawx b’mod ċar u dirett il-ġenoċidju u ma jsejħux għal sanzjonijiet kontra l-Iżrael.

Barra minn dan, qed insejħu biex il-Gvern Malti jiddikjara pubblikament li mhux se jħalli provvisti militari għall-Iżrael jgħaddu mill-ibħra u l-ispazju tal-ajru ta’ Malta.

Ma nistgħux nibqgħu nħarsu meta naraw sena ta’ ġenoċidju f’Gaża u 76 sena ta’ oppressjoni ħarxa mill-Iżrael fuq il-poplu Palestinjan. Mit-twaqqif tiegħu l-Istat Iżraeljan implimenta kampanja sistematika biex ikeċċi lill-Palestinjani minn arthom sabiex jeħodha hu. Għall-Palestinjani, dan fisser għexieren ta’ snin ta’ okkupazzjoni, apartheid u massakri bla waqfien.

Matul din l-aħħar sena biss, iktar minn 42,000 Palestinjan sfaw immassakrati f’Gaża, l-iktar tfal u nisa, filwaqt li l-bqija tal-popolazzjoni qiegħda tmut bil-ġuħ u bil-mard. Fix-Xatt tal-Punent okkupat, l-attakki tal-insedjamenti Iżraeljani żdiedu bil-kbir, u l-forzi tal-okkupazzjoni Iżraeljana eskalaw l-aggressjonijiet qattiela tagħhom fuq irħula, kampijiet tar-refuġjati, ġurnalisti u attivisti.

Il-kompliċità ta’ ħafna pajjiżi tal-Punent fl-atroċitajiet Iżraeljani ħallew din is-sitwazzjoni tal-waħx tmur mill-ħażin għall-agħar. L-Iżrael issa intensifika l-aggressjoni brutali tiegħu kontra l-poplu Libaniż, li ilu għal żmien twil iġarrab it-terrur tal-ambizzjonijiet kolonjali Iżraeljani. Iktar minn 1,000 Libaniż inqatlu mill-Iżrael matul dawn l-aħħar ftit jiem biss, u iktar minn miljun persuna ma kellhomx għażla għajr li jaħarbu minn djarhom.

Inħeġġu lill-pubbliku biex nhar il-Ħadd jingħaqad magħna biex flimkien nesprimu r-rabja kollettiva tagħna kontra dawn l-atroċitajiet bla qies u biex nuru solidarjetà mal-poplu Palestinjan u dak Libaniż fil-ġlieda tagħhom għall-kisba tal-ġustizzja u l-ħelsien.
