University exam policy unsafe and illogical – Moviment Graffitti

Moviment Graffitti support calls from KSU and Academic Staff, proposed to move lectures and exams online

Studenti Graffitti, the student wing of Moviment Graffitti, supports KSU in a call to move exams online.  The student organisation stated that the policy issued by the University, which states that students in quarantine cannot sit for exams in January, is both unfair and illogical when a safer alternative option is available.

As KSU pointed out, these students who will be forced to take their exam in September would be left with no option to have a second sitting in the same year in the unfortunate circumstance that they fail.

With a significant number of students having work placements and practicals in the summer period, the time to study for students decreases significantly in summer.

This policy also brings about a health risk for the rest of the population as students and their family members will avoid getting tested so that students are not stuck in quarantine and miss their exams.

In both 2020 and 2021, exams were held online and were a success. With cases being at an all-time high, Studenti Graffitti believes that the same should be done once again for all students.

Furthermore, Studenti Graffitti also supports the Academic Staff’s call for virtual lectures for the rest of the semester. This will keep all students and staff safe as much as possible until the exam period and ensure that students do not need to worry about their health until exams.

While we understand that it is not easy to change the format of the exams a couple of weeks before, these proposals are both the safest and most logical for all staff and students given the circumstances.

Regola tal-eżamijiet tal-Università mhux sigura u mhux loġika – Moviment Graffitti

Il-Moviment Graffitti jappoġġa sejħiet mill-KSU u l-Istaff Akkademiku, jipproponi li jitmexxew il-lekċers u l-eżamijiet onlajn

Studenti Graffitti, il-fergħa tal-istudenti tal-Moviment Graffitti, tappoġġja lill-KSU f’sejħa biex jitmexxew l-eżamijiet onlajn. L-organizzazzjoni tal-istudenti sostniet li r-regola maħruġa mill-Università, li tgħid li studenti fi kwarantina ma jistgħux jagħmlu l-eżamijiet f’Jannar, hija kemm inġusta kif ukoll illoġika meta teżisti għażla alternattiva aktar sigura.

Kif irrimarkat il-KSU, dawn l-istudenti li se jiġu mġiegħla jagħmlu l-eżamijiet tagħhom f’Settembru mhu se jkollhom l-ebda għażla biex jagħmlu l-eżami għat-tieni darba fl-istess sena fil-każ li sfortunatament ifallu.

B’numru sinifikanti ta’ studenti li jkollhom placements tax-xogħol u practicals fil-perjodu tas-sajf, iż-żmien għall-istudju għall-istudenti jonqos b’mod sinifikanti fis-sajf.

Din ir-regola ġġib ukoll riskju għas-saħħa għall-kumplament tal-popolazzjoni peress li l-istudenti u l-membri tal-familji tagħhom se jevitaw li jagħmlu l-iswab test biex l-istudenti ma jibqgħux imwaħħla fil-kwarantina u jitilfu l-eżamijiet tagħhom.

Kemm fl-2020 kif ukoll fl-2021, l-eżamijiet saru onlajn u kienu ta’ suċċess. Minħabba li n-numru ta’ każijiet huwa l-ogħla li qatt kien, Studenti Graffitti temmen li l-istess għandu jerġa’ jsir għall-istudenti kollha.

Barra minn hekk, Studenti Graffitti tappoġġja wkoll is-sejħa tal-Istaff Akkademiku għal lectures virtwali għall-kumplament tas-semestru. Dan se jżomm lill-istudenti u lill-ħaddiema kollha kemm jista’ jkun siguri sal-perjodu tal-eżami u jaċċerta li l-istudenti ma jkollhomx għalfejn joqogħdu jinkwetaw dwar saħħithom sakemm jaslu l-eżamijiet.

Filwaqt li nifhmu li mhux faċli tinbidel l-istruttura tal-eżamijiet ftit ġimgħat qabel, dawn il-proposti huma kemm l-aktar siguri kif ukoll l-aktar loġiċi għall-ħaddiema u l-istudenti kollha minħabba ċ-ċirkostanzi.
